There were 4,063,600 internet users in Slovakia (representing 74.2% of the population) in June 2011, according to Internet World Stats. (Internet World Stats, August 2011)


A total of 84% of Slovaks use the internet on a daily basis, according to a study released by the credit card operator MasterCard entitled "MasterIndex", which was carried out in 2011 in several EU countries. In the first quarter of 2010, 75.7% of individuals aged between 16 and 74 years old in the Slovak Republic indicated that they have use the internet in the last three month, according to the Statistical Office of the Slovak republic.  (Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, November 2010)

A total of 84% of Slovaks use the internet on a daily basis. Of those, 83% make purchases online, according to a study released by the credit card operator MasterCard entitled "MasterIndex", which was carried out in 2011 in several EU countries. In Slovakia, the survey canvassed 780 respondents and took place in June 2011.

Some 54% of the Slovaks who make purchases via the internet find this channel of shopping safe. The study also found that Slovaks mostly buy on the internet electronics (56%), books (53%), and clothing (40%). (PMR Retail and FMCG sector in Central and Eastern Europe, September 2011)


33.5% of all individuals aged between 16 and 74 years old in the Slovak Republic purchased  goods/services online for private use during the last 12 months in the first quarter of 2010, according to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.

The percentage stood at 30.7% among women and reached 36.3% among men.  The age group the most likely to buy online is those aged between 25-34 years old.

- 25-34: 49.4%
- 35-44: 40.7%
- 45-54: 30.4%
- 55-64: 13.9%
- 65-74: 4.4%

21.2% of online shoppers in the Slovak Republic in the first quarter of 2010 purchased products/services related to travel and holiday accommodation, according to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic. 20.9% purchased tickets for events.
