Demographics
69% of persons aged 10 to 74 in Slovenia used the internet regularly in the first quarter of 2011, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.
66% of persons used the internet at least once a week. There are more regular internet users among younger persons. The review by age shows that the internet was regularly used by 98% of persons aged 10 to 24 years and by only 29% of persons aged 55 to 74 years.

Persons aged 10 to 74 years used the internet in the first quarter of 2011 for a wide range of activities; 60% of them used the internet for sending or receiving e-mails, 53% for searching for information about goods and services, 51% for reading or downloading online news, 46% for searching for health-related information and for reading on-line discussion forums. Slightly fewer persons used the internet for obtaining knowledge through online encyclopedias (37%), for using services related to travel and accommodation (34%) and for searching for information about education, training or course offers (34%). In the last 12 months 44% of persons used the internet for interaction with public services, where they obtained information (41%), downloaded official forms (31%) and returned filled in forms (13%). Access
72% of households in Slovenia had access to the internet in the first quarter of 2011, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. This was 4 percentage points more than in the same period of 2010.
28% of households had no access to the internet, in the first quarter of 2011. Most households without access to the internet are single-person households (53%). The main reason for not having access to the internet was lack of computer and internet skills of household members (62%) or that household members had no need for internet access (61%). Half of households didn't have internet access due to too high access costs (50%) or due to too high equipment costs (49%). (Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, October 2011)

The share of persons buying via the internet in Slovenia is increasing, with 39% of persons aged 10 to 74 years having ever bought products/services via the internet, which is 6 percentage points more than in the same period of 2010, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.
In the first quarter of 2011 alone 20% of persons ordered or bought goods over the internet (17% in the same period of 2010). People mostly ordered or bought various clothes, sporting goods, travel or holiday accommodations (e.g. hotel reservations), various household goods, tickets for events, books, magazines, newspapers and computer hardware. Travel booking
32.8% of Slovenian internet users aged 10 to 74 years old who have made a purchase over the internet in the last twelve months, claimed to have purchased holiday accommodation (hotels, apartments...) online in the first quarter of 2011, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. Broadband access
67% of households in Slovenia had broadband internet access in the first quarter of 2011, which is 5 percentage points more than in the same period of 2010, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.
The most widespread type of broadband internet connection is xDSL connection (e.g. ADSL, VDSL); in the first quarter of 2011, 31% of households accessed the internet via xDSL connection. 25% of households accessed the internet via cable connection, 15% of households via optic fibre or other wired fixed broadband connection and 9% of households via fixed wireless connection (e.g. satellite, WiFi). Fewer households accessed the internet via narrowband internet connection. In the first quarter of 2011, 4% of households accessed the internet via ISDN and only 2% of households accessed the internet via modem (standard telephone line).

The share of households that accessed the internet via narrowband connection over a mobile phone (WAP, GPRS) decreased by 1 percentage point to 20% in the first quarter of 2011 compared with the first quarter of 2010, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.
On the other hand, in the same period of 2010, the share of households that accessed the internet via mobile broadband connection over at least 3G handset (UMTS, HSDPA) increased by 3 percentage points (to 20%). 8% of households use a mobile broadband connection via at least 3G modem (USB modem, laptop card), which is 2 percentage points higher than in the first quarter of 2010.
23% of persons aged 10 to 74 used mobile devices to access the internet away from home or work (11% of persons used mobile phone via WAP or GPRS, 10% of persons used mobile phone via UMTS or HSDPA and 7% of persons used portable computer via wireless connection) in the first quarter of 2011. UGC and social media
46% of persons aged 10 to 74 years old in Slovenia read online discussion forums in the first quarter of 2011, according to the survey of usage of information-communication technologies in households and by individuals, Slovenia, 2011 by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. This was 4 percentage points more than in the same period of 2010. 35% created or maintained profiles in social networks (+5 percentage points); 18% posted messages to online discussion forums (+2 percentage points).
Social networks sites were most often used by persons aged 16 to 24 (79%), followed by persons aged 10 to 15 (74%). Reading online discussion forums and posting messages to online discussion forums was most often used by persons aged 16 to 24 (75% and 37%, respectively) and by persons aged 25 to 34 (68% and 31%, respectively).
